Photographer Steve McCurry immortalized the haunted eyes of a 12-year-old refugee in a camp on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border on this magazine cover. Soviet helicopters destroyed her village and family, forcing her to make a two-week trek out of the perilous mountains of Afghanistan. The photo became a National Geographic icon after it was published on the cover in June 1985. Since then, this raw, untouched image has been used on rugs and tattoos, making it one of the most widely reproduced photos in the world. I liked this cover because to me when i was reading the description i was thinking to myself this young girl is so brave and strong if i were in her situation than i might have given up. so with that said i also liked this cover because to me it show the meaning of staying strong and doing what you have to do to survive. and it also just has a thing about it i don't know why what it is yet but you get this like feeling when you look at it or at least i do and i feel like it shows real emotions and that's also something i like about this photo.
